{"id":3882,"date":"2020-01-06T14:34:03","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T13:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sastrade.si\/en\/?p=3882"},"modified":"2020-04-14T11:41:46","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T10:41:46","slug":"atex-vacuum-cleaners-the-complete-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sastrade.si\/en\/atex-vacuum-cleaners-the-complete-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"ATEX Vacuum Cleaners: the complete guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>How to choose the right vacuum cleaner according to ATEX regulations?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s regulatory landscape, made up of both national and European regulations, doeasn&#8217;t simplify the work of Health &amp; Safety Managers and all those people that are concerned with ensuring the safety of their companies.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of this guide is to shed light and facilitate the understanding of the ATEX Directive with regard to the industrial vacuum cleaners.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"c_t col-md-12 text-left\" data-editable=\"\" data-id-element=\"4492\" data-type=\"main_content_text\" data-target=\"search\" data-lang=\"ENG\">\n<p>We will analyze:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is\u00a0<b>ATEX\u00a0<\/b>and where is it applied?<\/li>\n<li>The areas of risk or the probability of risk<\/li>\n<li><b>ATEX vacuum cleaner<\/b>: what features should it have?<\/li>\n<li><b>Delfin&#8217;s ATEX industrial vacuum cleaners<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>What is ATEX and where is it applied?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><b>ATEX\u00a0<\/b>is the union of French words\u00a0<b>ATmosph\u00e8res EXplosibles<\/b>\u00a0and the code that comprises two European Union directives concerning safety issues. The first,\u00a0<b>Directive 94\/9 \/ EC,<\/b>\u00a0regulates the use of equipment and machinery in areas at risk of explosion. It is addressed in particular to equipment manufacturers, regulating the technical safety features that these shall have to operate within the different areas of risk. The second is the\u00a0<strong>2014\/34\/EC<\/strong><b>,<\/b>\u00a0which concerns the protection of the health and safety of workers in potentially explosive atmospheres. This, therefore, is aimed at companies that can be have inside danger zones.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Where does ATEX regulations apply?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>The directive, which came into force in 1996 and became mandatory in 2003 for all the states of the Union, calls for the ATEX certification of all machines sold in the EU itself, regardless of the place of production and the regulations in force in it, if installed in areas at risk of explosion. In Italy it has acquired the force of law by the Decree of 23\/03\/1998 n. 126.<\/p>\n<h4><b>Where can an ATEX risk zone can be created?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Although it is widely believed that the danger of explosion is only a worry of the petrochemical industry, refineries and pharmaceutical industries, in reality the issue concerns many other sectors and companies.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, under certain conditions, common materials such as flour powder, light metals, wood, leather, carbon fiber, seeds, sugar, paper, cardboard, waste fuels and organic compounds can cause explosions.<\/p>\n<p>In the last decade there have been several tragedies caused by explosions in national and international companies. Just think of the explosion of grain storage silos in 2007 at the Molino Cordero di Fossano (Piedmont, Italy), in which five people lost their lives, or the\u00a0<b>disaster of 2008 in the sugar refinery Imperial Sugar in Georgia (USA<\/b>), where the victims count reached\u00a0<b>14 dead and 42 wounded.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In both these cases the explosions have\u00a0<b>occurred due to the wrong handling of powders<\/b>\u00a0and a\u00a0<b>poor cleaning of the installations<\/b>\u00a0which, in the long run have given the possibility to an e<b>xplosive atmosphere to arise and explode<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container-detail-atex\">\n<div class=\"c_t col-md-6 col-sm-6\" data-editable=\"\" data-id-element=\"4493\" data-type=\"main_content_text\" data-target=\"search\" data-lang=\"ENG\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-6 col-sm-6\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"class c_i\" title=\"atex\" src=\"https:\/\/www.delfinvacuums.com\/img\/img_uploaded\/atex_5b8919a2974bd.jpg\" alt=\"atex\" data-type=\"main_content_image\" data-target=\"path\" data-id-element=\"620\" data-width=\"370\" data-height=\"246\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c_t col-md-12 text-left\" data-editable=\"\" data-id-element=\"4494\" data-type=\"main_content_text\" data-target=\"search\" data-lang=\"ENG\">\n<h4><b>The areas of risk and the probability of risk<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.delfinvacuums.com\/img\/img_uploaded\/ATEX_Hazardous_areas_classificat.png\" alt=\"Atex classification\" \/><br \/>\nRisk is defined and calculated as the ratio between the working hours in a year and the hours in which it is probable that an explosive atmosphere is present, which is why we talk about probabilities.<\/p>\n<p>That is why the risk zones are divided as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>DUST HAZARD ZONE 20<\/b>: A place in which an explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in the air is present continuously, for long periods or frequently (eg. Hoppers, silos, cyclones and filters &#8211; powders transport systems, internal mixers, grinders, dryers, equipment for bagging, etc..).<\/li>\n<li><b>DUST HAZARD ZONE 21<\/b>: A place in which an explosive atmosphere is likely to be present in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in the air during normal operation.<\/li>\n<li><b>DUST HAZARD ZONE 22:<\/b>\u00a0A place in which an explosive atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in the air could occur, but will persist for a short period of time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>GAS HAZARD ZONE 0<\/b>: where an explosive atmosphere is continuously present for long periods for the presence of gas.<\/li>\n<li><b>GAS HAZARD ZONE 1<\/b>: where an explosive atmosphere is sporadically present for medium periods for the presence of gas.<\/li>\n<li><b>GAS HAZARD ZONE 2<\/b>: place where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur due to the presence of gas during normal operation. If this happens, it occurs only infrequently and for a short period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>ATEX Vacuum cleaner: what features should it have?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>What are the characteristics that must therefore be implemented on an\u00a0<b>ATEX vacuum cleaner\u00a0<\/b>to consider it safe for use in hazardous areas?<\/p>\n<p>An<b>\u00a0ATEX vacuum cleaner\u00a0<\/b>must be built in order to\u00a0<b>prevent the formation of sources of ignition<\/b>.
